Generator not supplying voltage to coach
I had an issue of no voltage from my 17.5 KW Powertech generator to the coach.
James O’Keefe tech at Powertech said to remove the F-/C and F+ terminals from voltage regulator. Apply 12 volts to the F+ terminal and ground the F-/C terminal.
I connected the wire to F-/C to the ground on the battery.
I connected wire to the F+ terminal and when I attempted to connect to positive terminal of battery got a spark and a chatter of a relay or relays in control box. the wire was getting extremely hot so I removed the jumper.
I reconnected the original wires to the regulator. When I started it the fan for the radiator and the fan for the generator both were running so I knew the generator was producing electricity.
I put volt meter probes on the two terminals of the circuit breaker on the generator control panel and it read 149 volts.
I was not getting any voltage to the coach.
looking for suggestions as to what to try. Powertech doesn’t answer after hours. Hoping to get some thoughts,

If the output is 149 volts it is a good thing that power is not getting to the coach.
I have no knowledge of how or what Royale or Powertech did for the intallation, but I do know to exceed the nominal 120V by that amount is not good.

Just got a call from Jeff the powertech rep and he says my applying the voltage to the generator may have caused what was disconnecting to fuse together and that I should see 240 on the two terminals. I need to get a new regulator and see if generator will produce 240. No regulators are available till end of Nov possibly.
Still a little confused as to what is issue with this generator. Going to try and call the other guy at Powertech to confirm on Monday.
Frustrating that there is no one who works on these things nearby. Called all the references on the Powertech website and they say they only work on small ones or the 200 KW units only.

Added new voltage regulator and now have 240 voltage with 119.8 on one leg and 120 on the other.
Flashing field restored magnetism in winding and revealed defective regulator. Be interested in knowing if just a normal failure or if there was something that induced the failure

The regulators are known failure items. A lot of folks carry a spare because of this. Simple answer is they fail.

One other thing to remember is better to run genny 2 hours than 20 minutes, gets all moisture out of windings.
