Generator / Inverter Issues
Took the bus to get new shoes his week (courtesy of PC Michelin Advantage Program). While at the shoe store I had the generator running with the AC’s going. I noticed that it was getting a little warm and that two AC’s were not running. A quick check showed that the inverters were powering the AC’s and that the generator was not supplying power to the bus even though it was still running. Shut down the generator and refired and all was fine until the trip back to the barn when the same thing happened again. I am going to check the transfer switch, but also thought I would tap into the brain trust for thoughts and advice and general harrssment.

Did the breaker at the generator trip?

On a Liberty if the generator is putting out power its remotely located radiator fan which is electric will be running. Step one would be to confirm if it is producing power. If not, generator issue, if it is, likely a transfer switch issue or as Tom suggests a trpped breaker.

We had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago but just got around to addressing it yesterday (thanks Jon).
We thought it was a Watchdog problem but found that the switch on the generator had been only partially switched and not making a connection…
All good now… whew !!

Just out of curiosity how in the world did that switch get tripped or out of position in the first place? Somebody monkeying with your coach?

Self inflicted wounds are often the most difficult to diagnose because they never make sense.

The generator breaker does not trip when this happens. Got the meter out and found 15 volts on each leg instead of 125 +/- output. Restart the generator and you get 125 volts on both legs. Replacing the regulator this morning. Hopefully that does the trick.

Replaced the regulator. Ran the generator for 58 hours of on a trip this week to New Jersey and Chicago. Worked great.
