  • Generator Hoses deteriorated caused leak

Posted by George on August 23, 2021 at 8:44 pm

I had an issue with 17 KW Powertech generator running and shutting off in about a minute or shorter time.

Found the supply fuel line was sucking air where the line went on to the fitting on the block. The generator line then went to the fuel pump and then to fuel filter.

Found these lines and the return lines was very hard and brittle.

Managed to attach new lines to old lines and pull thru the chassis from fuel tank attachment. Generator ran fine.

I failed to go full circle on hose replacement. This weekend pulled into campsite and had diesel fuel dripping from the generator bay.

The factory line from filter to injector pump was leaking fuel. It cracked where the hose coming up vertical made a sharp right 80 degree turn onto pump intake fitting.

Visit to NAPA and a piece of 5/16 fuel line and flushing of generator bay corrected the issue.

If your fuel lines are old you may want to consider replacing them as a preventive measure.

Doing my pre-flight before vacation and I notice the generator air bag pocket filled with diesel fuel. Brittle hose connection to the fuel filter.

Both fuel lines disappear into the ceiling of the generator bay. Any idea where they are routed and how hard to replace?

They should run directly to the top of the fuel tank. Pick up and return will be found beside the pick up and run for the engine. There is often access behind a panel in on of the outside compartments directly in line with the fuel tank. Not easy access in my past coach.

Thanks. Given my fuel tank is hidden away, I am guessing this will not be easy.
