  • Generator bay insulation removal of adhesive

Posted by George on June 4, 2021 at 9:12 pm

What have you used to remove the glue from the generator bay walls?

Don’t want to apply new to walls with rough adhesive residue. Want to get best application as possible.

I think I used acetone, but ventilate very well. Still takes a scraper and the old adhesive will ball up. Seem to recall using a lot of sandpaper to finish it.

This may seem sloppy, but if the adhesive from the previous generator insulation is adhering and requires extensive removal efforts, why not just accept the fact if you need serious effort to remove it, it might be acceptable as a base for the new adhesive required for the new insulation.

I have seen multiple generator insulation applications that use adhesive but multiple screws with large washers to supplement the adhesive.
