Generator battery replacement
Posted by Archived on October 27, 2014 at 7:14 pmTruk, do you recommend a Lifeline battery for generators? FYI my gen battery only charges as the generator itself runs. If replaced with Lifeline and I want to trickle charge when not in use does it require a specific type charger?

Hi George,
What battery size does your gen use? No problem using a trickle charger, but I would suggest a multi stage charger like a Battery Tender that has a float mode and temperature compensation. I use one similair to this:

Great, I’m a big fan of Battery Tenders and have used them for years. My gen requires 590 min cold crank amps per the manual. It’s a 17.5 Powertech ( 4 cylinder Kubota). I didn’t take the physical measurements but can do.

George,
Take a look at Lifeline’s starting batteries here and match up with what you have:

thanks Tom, I will check physical space available, Looks like 24T or 27T are both rated better than the requirement.

870 and 1020 on the cranking amps.
George – Send me an e-mail please, your address on file keeps coming back.

Tom, just sent the email. The current battery is a Lifeline 27T mounted in a plastic battery box in the rear of the gen compartment. Is there a date code on the battery? Definitely not taking a charge but I am curious as to how long it lasted. Do you ship yourself with the new battery so you can squeeze into the back of the compartment and lift the dead battery out? Texas is nice this time of year :-). I can barely squeeze in far enough to get my hands on it.

Goerge & Becky,
We do need to get Tom down to Texas… it would be fun for him then he could come visit us after he installs your battery for you !!
Cheers, Diane

The “Tom” installation process is still under negotiation but it would be great to get him to Texas. With your Texas gulf coast knowledge maybe we could tempt him with another No Rally Rally on the coast this winter.

You Texas folks should be kicking off a No Rally Rally or a Mini somewhere interesting in the Lonestar state. Must be some place over on the gulf coast somewhere that would be fun.
George – Battery installation no problem, all you need to do is fund my PC Loves card……
