  • Generator Auto-start Function

Posted by Bob on September 28, 2016 at 9:07 am

I have a 1996 Prevost Liberty and I am having trouble getting the remote start and Autostart funtions to work. If I slide the generator out and use the start/stop button on the generator it works just fine. I just do not have remote start capability.

There is a watch dog timer/control box and I do not see any of the display light working on this panel.

I have not checked the condition of the generator battery. I assume that if the generator starts properly that the battery is good. Maybe a bad assumption. Any ideas on how to t troubleshooting the remote and autostart function. Shall I start with the generator battery?

On the watchdog box,(black plastic unit) there are small recessed led lights on it, what lights are on? There is also a small red button that you can press and reset the unit….do this if the top power light is on and you have any other lights on, on this unit…..

The reset Jeff talks about is on the bottom of the Watchdog, almost impossible to see.

Upon further inspection, I noticed that the ribbon going to the black box (watchdog) was unplugged. Thus, no power to the black box.

Once I plugged the ribbon into the black box the generator immediately tried to start with the starter turning over. It would not start. Just the motor turning over. After 2 attempts I left the ribbon unplugged.

I proceeded to check to see if the generator would start using the button on the generator & started fine.
