I ran the generator 178.5 hours last week. I ran it 151 hours straight and had intended not to shut it down for Peter’s reason but the weather broke and it was in the 50’s the last few nights so I did let it rest over night.

I was pleasantly surprised by the fuel consumption. I filled up right before I parked and then filled again after 151 hours and after I left. In 178.5 hours I used a shade less than 93 gallons for an average of .52 gallons per hour. At that rate I could have easily ran the generator the whole ten days without refueling.

FYI: It is a 13.5 Martin generator with a Yanmar engine.

At $2.40 a gallon it cost me $1.25 an hour. The generator was loaded up every hour it was running with at least two AC’s and most of the time three, plus the electric side of the AquaHot, the fridge and all the rest. It was also running 11 amps of lights under the tent overnight and was the tent trailer was plugged into the bus as well.

Excellent information Davy and consistent with the numbers I had with a slightly less loaded generator giving me an hourly consumption of about .41 GPH.

Hi All,

The rule of thumb for generator fuel consumption on our units is 1/10 per hour overhead (internal friction, etc) and 1/10 gallon per hour per Kw of power produced.

As I said, I was pleasantly surprised. At today’s fuel prices is sure makes sense to park some where and run the generator rather than wiggle into an unknown RV park for an overnight stop. We never use any amenities at a campground other than utilities anyway.
