The potential for oil to weep or ooze from our coaches is everywhere. It can come from power steering fluid, differential grease, engine oil, A/C compressor oil, etc.

Fluid leakage is second on the chart of what annoys us only second to air leaks.

Every leak is repairable, but the question I ask myself is what is the cost or hours required to stop the leak, and is it worth it. Common leaks such as the seal behind the clutch on the A/C compressor, or the shaft seal on the 50DN, etc. are almost as common as air leaks, but until they get more serious I spray the area clean with brake cleaner at every service and quit worrying. It might be my age or my thinking $30 worth of spray cleaner every 5000 miles seems far more economical than 3 or 4 hours of my labor and $150 worth of parts.

I think I am turning to your page or just cleaning the oil leak instead of parts and labor.

On a different note:

I spend hours finding and stopping air leaks only to have them start again on my next trip. Interestingly enough, my last trip of 3,500 miles my leaks seamed to slow themselves down all by themselves.

Come on Chuck, of all the work to do on a bus, you are going to avoid changing that seal? In the realm of Bus work, that is pretty high on the easy list.

The air leaks seam to be fixing themselves, maybe the seal will too LOL.

On a serious note: can just the seal be purchased and replaced or in today’s world of throw it away and replace it, will I need to replace the hole pulley?

Air leaks can come and go depending on outside temps. Colder temps bring more leaks.
