  • Gen shutdown

Posted by Rick on May 19, 2018 at 6:58 am

Kohler unit ran 12 hours in 90+ heat. all a/c units, ran perfectly all day. no issues, but when we pulled into a camp site, she refused to shut down at the dash control. on Marathon its labeled “gen stop preheat” so I shut her down on the inverter control panel. i figured I would let her cool down and I was tired and look at it in the morning. Also, after we hooked up, one inverter (#1) showed bulk charging and #2 showed float and has stayed that way (now about 5 hours) never experienced that before. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I know you’re Crestron controlled, is that how you start the gen or do you use the manual switch’s? Was the auto start active when you tried to shut down. Not unusual to have a 4024 get stuck on bulk charge, it’s happened to me and I just turned the charge time to “0” and it goes to float, next time it worked as normal charging for 3 hours, my set point.

Rick, I have zero knowledge about Marathon and how they set up their Crestron, but on my Crestron equipped coach I have multiple touch screens throughout the coach and on rare occasions I will be unable to start or stop the generator on a particular screen. My response is to use a different screen and all generator functions will work on my second choice when none worked on my first.

Liberty uses their “Watchdog” for generator control and protection so the issue you have may be totally unrelated to my experiencing the same thing. I assume you have screens throughout the coach and have you tried others when the one failed to respond?

When it happens on my coach the next time I want to turn the generator on or off the screen that did not work will work perfectly. Go figure. Its the little electrons running around playing with me.

I had an issue with the auto start switch on the generator itself. The auto start at times would not be illuminated at the dash. Marathon swore it was a bad wire between dash and gen. Wanted to spend hours tracing it. I found the issue in about 15 min as i started from the gen and worked my way up the wire harness. It was a $5 switch gone bad.

    Something to look at!

I started the generator today and I can only stop it by manually turning it off in the gen bay. rebooted everything I can’t stop the generator from restarting. Even when I disable the auto start

Generator programed to start when it senses ground.

Suggest looking inside control box on side of generator. Normal shake and vibration on running generator would lend me to spend time in the generator bay wiring connections.

    Rick,

Assuming you have 4024 inverters and remotes, push the green button once (only once) and see if it looks like this.

Got marathon on the phone rebooted entire coach. kill/pre heat switch at dash still inoperable. However one in bath is operable so at this point I assume we have a switch problem.
