If yours has a Meritor, maybe a call to the support line can give you that info. I am not sure about your situation, but in trucks we had a ton of ratios available to us in the same series of housings.

Check the axle number Bob that will tell you the cage number Prevost uses different axles for different cages the P 1706 cage will accept the 3:42, 4:10 and the 4:30

Just read post Clifford; I have axles loose — will pull and ck for #’s . I’m learning under fire on this one. Have added one number to post on hogs head 3200-N-1704 The 4 wasn’t there before. The tag is gone off housing. Checked for stamped #’s also. -J- The J is just like it apears in post . Counted rotation and it is for sure 4:56. Bob

I suspect Prevost does not change gear ratios very much if at all, but the answer may lie in the manuals you can access.

I just found out that a previous owner of my coach had Prevost
change out the entire differential on my coach due to gear noise so I
suspect they might not open them up very much. Changing one out has to
be a major PITA.

Have had it out and back in. I just made a big
mental error; all on me when I figured final drive ratio. The hogs head
doesn’t just slide straight in. Requires a little tilt on final approach
then straight. Trying to make best of what could be a high dollar
mental mistake ON ME. Would be nice to just replace ring and pinion set.
I can do that myself and set up. Just need to know what will fit and if
prevost has parts. Actually I don’t know enough to ask parts guy on
phone a question even with my unit # because it looks like my diff has
been changed. W-6553 was shipped with a 4:56 ratio but mine doesn”t
match the case Id with the N and last # 7704 Went to Prevost car tech
pub first and CD then to rockwell. Still searching and have several
other guys searching also and have actually gotten far enough to ask
this question. Thanks Bob

A little over three months but after much work by many good people and parts chasing.I have the #s now for the change over. It is at hand. Sitting next to bus ready to be installed. Everything new except hard parts(case etc). I did compromise somewhat and ended up with a 3:07 gear ratio.
