The warranty, the glitz (bling), and fact very few potential buyers have a clue about a Prevost.

OH, and let’s get real. slides. In that price range for a Prevost it is perceived as almost historic, and if it has slides it is likely beat to hell and it likely will not have as many slides as the S&S.

I was going saw everything Jon said in that order.

I’m on the RV Horror Story Facebook page. The stories about massive leaks, unbelievably poor construction, terrible and danger wiring are way beyond comprehension. Most of the problems are with new RVs … travel trailers, fifth wheels, A-B-C motorhomes … pretty much many to all of them. Many of the problems start out on the way home from the dealer or on the first family outing at a campground in front of all their friends. Some are trying to full-time in them after retiring.

Things I’ve learned.

1. Stay away from Lippert axles.

2. Stay away from Lippert frames.

3. Stay away from Lippert breaks.

4. Be prepared to rebuild the entire unit … structure, water sealing, plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, and so on.

I’ve started to ask “how much does a rig like you bought [that you can’t use] cost?” Answers are $90,000 to $160,000 for a fifth wheel (Plus a $70,000 crew cab, diesel dually to pull it). Motorhomes more. The dealers are often incompetent and/or ambivalent when it comes to making repairs. Warranties are often useless. Many of these same people say “I wish I could afford a Prevost” when we drive by them in the campground.

Every time I read a new post on the site, I’m glad I’m where I’m at.

PS: So far no derogatory posts about Renegade truck conversions (I refuse to call them Super C’s, a Renegade truck conversion is head and shoulders above what I view as a Super C.)

A good PS Dick, I was about to call bullshit. I have friends with new gas class A’s and have been very happy with the Newmar’s. I have Lippert slides and it couldn’t be anymore simple and I’ve had no issues. We’ve been full time now for almost 6 months and the Renegade has been very good. Nothing like Prevost ownership, but there are well built reliable coaches out there.

Because of the China Virus we have been greatly limited to getting the coach out. Supposed to take a 5 1/2 hour drive to Huntington Beach State Park tomorrow for the weekend.We will see.

I can tell you that every time we go into a State Park plenty of folks make comments when we are sitting outside. Some are nice comments. Some are comments that cannot be repeated in a public forum. I can tell you that I work extremely hard to not recall my military background with an appropriate response. It takes an enormous amount of control on my part. For Tammie, it slides right off. She cares less what anything thinks about what she and I have worked so hard to own and to enjoy. She is a good soul. Mine, well…

I do not say anything to anyone about their RV. If I see a Prevost I make an attempt to introduce myself. Bottom line, good people are good people. Plenty of us have come from poor families, worked hard, studied hard, served our country, and tried our best to enjoy life as best we can. I did not purchase my Prevost just because it is a Prevost. I purchased it because so may owners had expressed joy, satisfaction, and happiness with the ones they own.

Mine is old, but it runs like a top. Yes, it slobbers. Yes, I have frequent questions on how to do simple things. And yes, I too, sometimes get frustrated by PC comments that make me feel just plain stupid. It comes with new ownership, but those comments cannot possibly hinder the enjoyment I have when I am in that coach.

Because our coaches tend to age very well they look newer than most really are. Combine that with the perception because we own a Prevoost we are rich, stuck up, think we are better than anyone else and the reactions to us run the gamut.

Imagine how great things would be in this world if we could do away with jealousy and prejudice.

My Experiences were similar to tom’s friends. Our first RV was an Tiffen Allegro on a ford v10 picked it up the day before my first child was born.. we took our first trip before she was a week old and we used a drawer as a crib. About 3 years later daughter #2 and I taught her to say Diesel Pusher we were out on a trip at Top Sail near Destin and came home with a 40′ quad slide Newmar Dutch Star. Were super happy with it as well as the service and then 2007 Marathon and no looking back…

Over the years I have had the opportunity to speak with lots of people about our decision to purchase a used prevost vs. an newer whatever…. To a person they have all been surprised at the pricing of a used prevost vs. new whatever. Many of the higher end Newmars and I am sure others are pushing close to or over the 1mil mark. Were into our 2007 a lot less than that. But everyone has different wants and needs. What I like about PC is that it’s a great place to come and get lots of different ideas and opinions. I am positive we wouldn’t be rolling in a Prevost if I didn’t start with that Allegro and fall in love with the lifestyle. Some people have the cash and start right at the top… That is what is great about this country!
