Garmin BC 40 back up camera
Attention Electronics Genius’s:
I have a Garmin BC 40 backup camera that was was given to me as a rear view backup camera. It is not what I need since it only works when the coach is in reverse. Does anyone have a work around to make it stay one while it the coach is going down the road? The picture is great just it doesn’t work driving down the road. Hopefully there may be a solution.

The answer is yes ….but it requires more information about your bus which requires you to look behind your monitor on dash to see how many AV inputs are on monitor.
I replace my monitor so I had a inputs AV1 and AV2 which I can select with remote. The Techlink Screens on AV1 and Backup camera plugged into AV2. I have button on dash to select backup camera. I then remote over to AV2 on monitor.

I set mine up on a switch so if I want it on all the time
it can be or if not off and also I set it up so if I do have it off and put the bus into reverse it automatically comes on.

- I should have been more clear on what I want to do. I am trying to use my backup camera Garmin 40 BC wireless with a RV 770 LMT-S monitor as a camera that transmits the rear view as I am going down the road.I spoke with Garmin and they said it is a backup camera that only works when the coach is backing up. They said it was for safety reason. Doesn’t make sense to me. The view from the camera is great and it would be nice to use it while driving. So the question is, is there anyone that has figured out how to get around this?Any ideas?

Yes if you don’t want it on a switch find a power source that is active when the ignition is turned to the on position and the camera will be on all the time. Just wire the trigger wire to the power source that is on with the ignition

Ralf, I am not sure that is possible since the backup camera is battery operated. Since the entire system is operated on GPS backing up must trigger it on and when going forward turns it off.Any more thoughts?

Yes the trigger must be a 12v signal if so then just run a continuous 12v power source to the trigger behind the unit and the image should be on as long as the bus is on

Can you post a photo of the rear of the display and the cables coming out of it?

Regarding the display the only port on the back of it is the power port which is a 12V connection. the camera is a wireless unit with no wired connections. Somehow Garmin has programmed the camera or display to only allow the camera to operate when the coach is standing still or when in reverse.Best case would be if someone knew how to reprogram so it could be on all the time. If not does anyone know of a wireless camera that would connect to the display and stay on 100% of the time.

How does it know when you are in reverse? Via gps? I have never seen that, very interesting though, they usually have a trigger wire on them so the know when the vehicle is on reverse. If it does work off gps signal I’m not sure you will be able to accomplish your goal but I could be wrong
