Fuel Tax Hike
Not that the cost of diesel and gasoline are not bad enough already, a congressman from Oregon with a glowing bicycle on his lapel wants to increase the Federal Fuel Tax rate by .15 per gallon….that would bring the tax rate (Federal) on diesel to 42.8 cents/gallon. The bill ws introduced yesterday, let’s hope it goes down in flames!

The only thing we can do is to express our displeasure to our elected critters.
I would expect that from representatives from states that have a lot of public transportation and not great distances for the constituents to travel, such as NY, but not from his state.

Oregon is a state where you may not pump your own fuel; gas, diesel, Lp. The only way around the attendant, is flash your CDL, and they let you pump your own But if you make a mess, it’s your nickel to pay to clean it up.

actually you can only self-pump diesel that is why your CDL worked. You can pump diesel at the trucker islands. Most stations will not let you pump on the passenger car islands.

Yep, it works, ,and even show the CDL at gas stations and I can fuel our sprinter, too.

I assume the state of Oregon with that wacky rule has been successful at making the cost of fuel more expensive by creating unnecessary labor cost for the businesses selling fuel. It’s amazing the rest of the country can pump their own fuel without help.

Yes, Oregon fuel is spendy. But, they have created some beneficial employment opportunities. Guess that’s a good thing, job creation.

NJ requires an attendant to pump the fuel also.

We were there in September and I pumped my own fuel into the bus in the Freehold area. Didn’t see an attendant around. Guy in front of me in straight truck did the same. Not sure if anything has changed or not as I really wasn’t aware of the fueling rule.

I believe it is gas only. Maybe Rick can tell us if NJ still requires gas station attendants.

Or and NJ are the only states with that law. Vote of the people – don’t change it. Our gas price is about the same as WA sometimes up sometimes down.

Wasn’t too many moons one would pull into a gas station and attendant would come running and would fuel your car, wash the windshield, maybe every window, check the H2O and oil, tires pressures if you asked, and after all was done would give a page full of “stamps” to you to boot! Now I pump the stuff myself, cannot find anything but a worn out squeegee sitting in a tub of dirty water for the windows, no air and no stamps….but I do get to look at the attendant through 2″ piece of bullet proof glass…………….
Regarding the gas tax, there is a catch 22……guy (Oregon congressman) sets the rationale based on cars and trucks being more fuel efficient nowadays, therefore less fuel therefore less revenues for road maintainence and the like. Then you need to factor in agencies like Cal-Trans, the State operated road maintenance and repair organization that is involved in every road issue or task in California. Journeyman ditch digger now makes $700/hr while the Supervisors are making nearly $100/hr + benefits. Gotta luv that!
