  • Fuel tank capacity?

Posted by Bill on August 22, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Is it possible that my 40′ 1998 CC has a fuel tank that holds less than 200 gallons? I thought the standard tank was 205/208 gallons, the same as what I had in my 1988. However, the fuel gauge shows 1/2 and I take less than 100 gallons. Today I was down to 1/4 tank and only took 131 gallons. I know the gauges aren’t perfect but the gauge reads full about the same time the auto fill cuts out so it seems the top end is right but I am concerned about running out of fuel if I try to push too far. The low fuel light will come on as we drop below 1/4 tank but it “seems” like I should have less than 50 gallons at that point when in reality I still have 75+ available. Just curious if there were smaller tanks installed that anyone is aware of. If I call Prevost, would they be able to confirm what size tank was installed in this particular coach?

I feel your pain. I am paranoid about running out of fuel.

    Our 96 Liberty XL40′ has 250 gals.

Standard tank is 160 gal. Optional was a second interconnected 90 gal tank.

Our 1988 CC had a 205 (or 208) so I know there are more options than 160 and 250. 160 would make some sense based on the fuel gauge actions. I will check with Prevost, thanks.

Mine is a 97 40 ft also and like Don said 160 plus aux tank is 90, If you have aux tank, In front bay mounted up against back wall. My last trip to Oregon my fuel gauge was at a bit under 1/2 tank took 100 gallons

Like Bill said, ours hits E when we’ve burned 160 gals. I rely on the Detroit Pro Driver that I know is accurate. But, it doesn’t add the genny fuel usage. I add 1 gal/hr for gen run time.

Our biggest fillup so far has been 210 gals, and the gen would still run.

    Bill-

’96 xl40 160gal. Think this is pretty standard unless like Don said you have the optional 90gal reserve.

If your cost at the pump isn’t high enough, come to CA where 160gal will set you back over $1100.

That’s just where I am headed. We are in Las Vegas for 2 nights tonight and then onto Santa Ana followed by Atascadero. Hope to get some time in Ventura along the Pacific Coast after that. Company pays for fuel so I should be OK!

    Bill-

Sounds like a good trip. It will be warm in Atascadero mid to upper 80’s, but that may feel cool after Las Vegas. Ventura will be cooler. Ventura is great!

Yep, 107 in Vegas yesterday. Only 101 today! The only good thing about being in Minot, ND for most of the summer was the great weather. Santa Ana puts us close to Huntington Beach which we love and staying along PCH 1 in Ventura is super special. Bonus is my Sister lives nearby. Should be a great trip and easy work.

Yep, that’s that place, just could not think of the name. They were supposed to be going to reservations required setup. Do you know if that ever happened?
