Fuel Discount Program Envio
Posted by Archived on July 27, 2018 at 5:15 pmWe received this email today from Deb Nau explaining a change in our fuel discount program. The change as far as it affects us is name only as she outlines in the message below. If you have Deb in your email contacts list or on your phone be sure to reflect her new email address.
I wanted to reach out personally to let you know about an exciting change here at Profit Tools. On March 2, Profit Tools’ TMS and BI assets became part of the Valsoft family of software companies. Our fuel services and other lines of business that were not acquired will continue under the new name Envio, Inc.
I would like to emphasize that it is business as usual – there are no changes in the fuel department staff, fuel discounts, or card acceptance. Also, you will continue to use your current Profit Tools fuel cards.
THE ONLY CHANGE YOU WILL SEE – Your ACH will be from Envio instead of Profit Tools. This change will happen within the next few days. Please be sure to inform your accounting personnel that fuel payments will be from Envio, Inc.
I welcome any questions you might have. You can reach me at 603-659-3822, and by email:
Thank you,
Deb Nau

Deleted UserOctober 5, 2018 at 5:22 pmOnly a Prevost VIN or one we assign will work.
If you need one send me an email or begin the process of applying for the card. I will be notified by the system, I will edit your VIN and give you a heads up I changed it so you can proceed with the application.

Jon, you set me up a few years ago with my Wanderlodge VIN. Should we change my info to reflect my Prevost VIN? If so how would I do that? Thanks

Jon, you say there are over 3000 PC members….how many are signed up fuel program users ?

We are almost at 3700 members, but only a very small percentage have signed up for the program.
We have less than 500 showing as registered for the program, and of those some are not registered because of how our Admin program views some as participants. We really don’t know the precise number, but it is a very small percentage and not all who actually are members use the program.
If we had a large percentage of participants, and flowed a lot of gallons we would be in a very good position to improve our offerings to members.

Jon,
Membership count in PC fuel program is based on fee charged of $250 per year by the program provider. If you fail to pay this fee your not in PC fuel program.
So lets pretend PC is a trucking company. With 500 members, 50% now are regular users in fuel program after years of membership gallons per month purchased can only go one way….up
Discounts probably were entry level when qualification was at low number of trucks (buses). So someone begin with a number, lets say 20 PC trucks buses in our fleet.
Now after several years trucks (buses) have increased in the PC fleet. Level of discount back to fleet owner or members increase on a monthly base as gallons sold increase or it should. There should be tier levels in place …
A) Keep PC members at the pumps
B) Reward each member (the group) with
increase cents per gallon discounts.
C) Are you a member ? Yes, if you paid
250 fee.
Some of us have been in the truck stop business and discounts increase to the fleet (PC) by amount of gallons purchased per month.
Actually the Federal case against Flying J pretty much spelled it all out to the world why truck stops fuel is always at higher posted prices.
So my question is ….Are we getting the bang for our buck based on average gallons by numbers as users has gone up ?
Thank you,
AL

First, it is important to understand how the program works and how we get the discounts. We are only one of a large number of participants in the program and Envio 360 (formerly Profit Tool) is an aggregator. They have a large number of small clients that combined buy enough fuel collectively to make it easy for a fuel station to provide a discount. We alone, even with almost everyone participating is unlikely to be a large consumer (I buy less than 2000 gallons annually and that is about what a commercial trucker buys in 2 months). But by piggybacking on others we share the discount.
It took a very long time to negotiate the discount and the terms of use and both Tom and I even met with other firms offering discounts but nobody except Envio was willing to do individual billing. That was the biggest hurdle. PC is not in a position to receive a single invoice for fuel purchase and then try to invoice and collect from individual members.
So fortunately we were able to negotiate the discount, but more importantly individual billing, and equally important the swipe and go feature. I have tested the market periodically and there is nothing out there that will provide the benefits we now enjoy and unless or until I am assured we have widespread participation and we are flowing a lot of fuel I will not rock the boat.

In the EFS system we are a pimple on an elephants butt. A reasonable average for a driver is around 2,500 miles per week or maybe 125,000 per year. I average about 13,000 miles per year. So it would take 10 buses like me to match a truck in yearly mileage and fuel usage.
Our fuel program using Loves .10 off cash is unbeatable and the chances of a better deal won’t be happening, only because the numbers will never justify Envio increasing our discount based on volume. If your using the credit card option, cash price is the best you can expect, but the convenience of pump and go is priceless.
Al, the federal case was Pilot was it not?
-
Tom,
I was actually going to point out the cash discount we receive on top of the 10 cents at loves. Add that together and your looking at 15-18 cents total without having to prepay in cash.
Thanks for getting us hooked up with the program, not everyone will take advantage of it and that’s their choice. Those of us that do, appreciate the benefits and convenience.
-
Tom,
We are each 50 % correct.
The federal fraud scheme was labeled…. Pilot / Flying J where nearly 20 corporate employees went to jail.
BTW…thanks for your replies. Hope PC members read the details of this fuel program.
Great program saving money and in // out about 20 minutes. The key is getting to the pump.

The Pilot/Flying J case is still not fully resolved. Some of those that plead guilty or who were found guilty have been sentenced, but there is more sentencing to occur.
Hazelwood the former president was sentenced to 12.5 years but is free so far pending efforts for a new trial.
The bottom line is the company did not pay all the discounts offered to trucking firms because they were based on the daily market wholesale price plus a 2 or 3 cent fee. Unless a trucking company was able to track the wholesale prices daily and apply those prices to their daily purchases they did not know what they were paying for fuel.
Our program is simple……look at the cash price on the big sign at the truck stop and deduct 10 cents. That is what your bill from Envio will say.
BTW, so far despite the millions and millions involved the chairman of the company, Jimmy Haslam has proclaimed he had no knowledge and so far has not been involved in the criminal cases. I also believe in Santa Claus.
-
Charles, curious how you get to those savings, could you explain please, we’re always looking for more discount.

An important side bar to Pilot/Flying J fraud scheme as most victims were unaware of fraud. For a long period of time prices from supplier or as known in the industry as the… Rack Price… were never disclosed.
Rack Price is the fuel industry term phrase for cost price. This is price per gallon when fuel drops from overhead filling hose into the transport truck.
The Feds had a real advantage on this fraud. Wire taps were granted and followed by the Feds for appox 1 +/- year before the “weasel” round up began.
Another important part of this case was how it began. A staff office assistant went to feds with the fact that main victims were the mom and pop small trucking companies who took the word of Pilot/Flying J that business was so tight their normal monthly additional discount would not apply.
By holding back profit dollars it increased company profits then increased bonus dollars at top level employees. It was going on for years, which sent the fraud to millions of dollars range.
Jimmy Haslam / plus Hazelwood and the other weasels must believe that pigs can fly. Bottom line is wire taps tell the truth.
Loves truck stops was a big winner in this case. Picking up many Pilot / Flying J locations leveling the playing field. One that stands out is Des Moines Iowa Flying J on I-35 now a Loves.
