Ft Polk La.
My boy is a career officer in the Army stationed at Ft. Polk. I have put this off as long as my other half will allow….question any decent places to stay in the bowels of the bayou? I am headed there in the bus next week and some how Wal-Mart seems not appropriate.

A quick search shows a military campground. Unfortunately, you won’t fit. RVParkReviews.com suggest this is the place you may want to try. And their rates are hard to beat. http://www.paragoncasinoresort.com/Home/Amenities/RVPark.aspx

I was stationed at Fort Polk many years ago. My wife and I lived in Leesville. The area around Fort Polk was quite desolate at the time we were there but things may have changed by now. There is a RV park in Sulfur, LA, that is listed in the BIG RIGS RV GUIDE that may be fairly nice. The name of the place is A-Plus Motel and RV Park, http://www.a-plusrvpark.com. The only problem is that you would have a 70 – 75 mile drive to Fort Polk. Another possibility might be Hidden Treasure RV Resort, http://www.hiddentreasurerv.com, located in or near Leesville. Also, you might check with your son to see if there are camping facilities on Post and if so are they available for civilian use. Hope this helps.

I was in the Paragon / Marksville campground several weeks ago. First class with lots of amenities.. but probably 40 – 50 miles away with all two lane country roads between….

Thanks for the input guys! May have to try Alexandria, don’t think that is too far away…..Anyway I will disclose my findings after my sojurn, and I too remember the area as being a bit on the barren side.
