Front window glass replacement on XLV
Yesterday, my wife and I replaced the two main front windshields. I read all these tall stories about it being only a 10 minute job. So we thought we give it a try.
First small problem was the current glass was glued onto the rubber moulding with RTV. Going around the seals with a sharp plastic stick solved that problem. After removing the locking strips, the passenger windshield did come out in one piece in about 10 minutes. The driver side glass cracked as we pushed it out due to some large chips. No matter.
We cleaned up the old gasket by removing much of the RTV and added liberal soap. We were able to lift the passenger side glass into place and it slid home pretty quickly. Sliding the flat part of the glass into the gasket in the center first and then seating the curved part worked well. The driver side glass put up a fight but we managed to get it in as well.
Inserting the locking strips with the Lisle tool was pretty straightforward. All in all, it took us about 2.5 hours for both windshields. Getting new glass in looks great.
With that under our belt, it would be nice to replace the small pieces dark tinted glass above the windshield. One has a pretty bad crack. Only issue is there is no access from the interior. Has anyone replaced those wind shields? Any pointers?

Gerald, obviously Prevost is the source for the upper eyebrow windows. You do not need interior access to replace them. One way to expedite the replacement is the use of a tool that greatly simplifies the replacement of the rubber locking strip. The rubber strip is run through the opening in the tool and then the tool is drawn along the outer gasket and as it travels it guides the rubber strip into the outer gasket and actually pushes it in place. Because you cannot push the eyebrow glass out from behind you are going to have to pry the glass from the gasket and the glass is likely to break.
A quick internet search will bring up a multitude of locking strip tools.

Same as the windshield, however if you use a suction cup you can pull it without access from the back…

Suction cups available at Harbor Freight for about $7 each. You will probably need 2. I use one for an assist grab for wife by front door. Helps her get in. Pop loose when ready to travel.

I assume Marathon used the 28% tint glass on the eyebrow window – it looks almost black. I tried to log into Prevost parts to get a quote, but no luck. Always get internal server error. I’ll try again tomorrow.
I have the suction cups and the locking strip tool so I think we are all set except for the glass.

I had a xl Marathon some years back probably 20yrs the top vista Windows was black, when I replaced one I noticed it was painted black on the inside, all the time I thought it was window tint

Gerald, just 5 words. SPRAY BOTTLE WITH SOAPY WATER.
Makes everything go so much better.

I managed to log into Prevost Parts (my password was expired).
It seems I can get either 8% tint ($240) or 28% tint ($340). The clear glass is not available. If it is painted on the inside anyway, I’d go for the cheaper one. Correct?

You can always put extra dark Limo film on the inside if you get the cheaper one. Easy to do, again soapy water, squeegee let it set overnight, sharp razor blade to trim. You might think about putting in extra insulation up top, or back side of glass while the glass is out.

Black paint on the inside of the window will look like “Limo” tint, is easier to apply and probably less expensive than tint.
