  • Front brake caliper noise going down the road.

Posted by Glenn on May 22, 2014 at 11:57 pm

Hey All, still workin on my purchase of a 02 Marathon XL, one issue I want to go over with Prevost when we do a DMI next week is the right front caliper will sometimes make noise going over a large bump, expansion joint etc while driving.

I do have some recipts from Prevost stating that it was “normal” or not of concern ( I see they recently replaced front shocks) I am just wondering if others have experienced this and what can you do to correct it?

I don’t think it will be the brake caliper there is a steering rod with tie rod ends on it they are not able to be greased they can make that same noise if brakes and calipers are good check those ask Dave on night shift he will know it is not the tie rods but can’t remember the name of the rod sorry

It could be as simple as a bad bushing such as in a sway bar. I have no idea how to discern what some noise origins are without getting under the coach and doing a detailed inspection.

The Prevost techs will know how to check for wear and free play at the disc brake sliding caliper pins. There’s a “half bushing” kit available that’s cheap and easy to install.
