  • Freezing Temperatures Predicted – Help!

Posted by Jimmy on October 13, 2015 at 3:57 pm

I live on Lake Erie outside of Buffalo, NY. My bus garage was demolished after the surprise Snowvember storm dumped 5 feet of snow on my roof last year. I have not rebuilt yet and I can’t find temporary housing for the coach. I plan on driving the bus to Florida in 3 weeks.

So no warm place to store the Prevost and it’s going down to 30 degrees for a few hours at least one night this weekend.

    Any advice is appreciated.

Jimmy, You don’t mention if there is power available.

If there is it is likely your coach has a means by which you can keep the water bay and interior above freezing.

When we lived in Jamestown, even with it 20 below I was able to use a cube heater in the water bay (fill the water tank because it is a huge heat sink) set at the 500 Watt setting, and a single heater on the kitchen counter set at 500, 1000, 0r 5000 watts depending on how cold it was really going to get.

At 30 degrees my guess is no heat or provisions are necessary, but prolonged cold spells below 32 will require supplemental heating.

If you don’t have available shore power just run the generator with whatever heaters you have turned on. You will likely use less than .5 GPH.

I feel much better now. I do have 50 amp service outside overlooking the lake. I’ll follow your precautions so I should be good for a few weeks. Thank you.

Jimmy, you’re fine. We’re never in cold weather, so last late fall when we got stuck in Wi. later than normal (18 deg), we freaked. As long as you have power all your bay and toe kicks will keep you just fine. Geo.

The hot water heater alone will keep the plumbing bay toasty.

From Brockport, so I feel your pain.

Then I do extend a Hummel, Hummel – Mors, Mors” to you!

This comes from someone who used to live in Bremen.

Probably, makes no sense to you at all.

    🙂 … 🙂

    Cheers,

    Ronald

we are full timers in the DC area. When the temp hits freezing, we turn on a water heater in the bay and fire up the webasto. If you don’t have shore power, run your generator. You’ll be ok. The webasto is a fantastic furnace. Just ensure your fresh water is full and you have plenty of diesel in the tank.
