Forward shutters
Posted by Archived on March 25, 2012 at 4:24 pmYou can imagine the typo I got when entering this title….
Anyway, what are they? I have a button on my dash that makes a plunking sound when pushed. Other than that I can’t tell what happens.

Behind your front bumper (which drops down) is an open space that on your coach has a pair of Cruise Air condensing units. I believe the shutters are a Prevost feature, but their purpose is to either allow air flow into the comparltment behind the bumper or close it off. In the winter when driving in cold temps closing the shutters keeps your feet and legs a little warmer, and in the summer it allows the Cruise Air units to get cooling air.

I would like to rewire mine so I would have more control over them. Mine open and close depending on the compressor for the AC’s. So they keep banging open and close as the AC’s work. I would have thought that they were a converter add on.

Karl,Liberty has the shutters set up so that if they are closed with the ignition key on then they are open with the key off, since almost all Liberty’s have bus air it is not necessary to supply air to the cruise airs going down the road but you do want to supply air when camping. The shutters also help keep the cruise airs and the steering bay clean. If yours are out of sequence just close them with the key on and that will put them in sequence. Also turning on the Webasto will also close them.

Thanks all! I will go check them first chance. I have no idea what position they are in currently. I’m glad I have the OTR though!

Bonz,
My Liberty was an older one, 94, and I had to open the shutters while driving with the cruiseairs running or they would over temp and shut down quicker than usual. On real hot days, the cruiseairs could not handle the road heat and with the shutters closed, the shut down came quicker. With OTR that’s not an issue for you, but you want them open while parked and the A/C’s running.

Karl,
Ours works the same way that Jack described. The way Liberty set it up, you can “set it and forget it” and the forward shutters will be closed while driving and open while parked.
I was always concerned that I didn’t have it “right” until I figured out that the system was managing air flow automatically better than I could remember to do it manually!
