  • Forum issues on iPad

Posted by Dale on November 5, 2014 at 11:10 am

I don’t know if there has been an update in software or something else. But I logged on and made my post yesterday about my Centramatics, and then after that all Reply and even New Thread buttons disappeared. The only reason I was able to make this post is that there is a New Thread button on the main page that allows you to select which forum to post in. It is not a login problem. I am logged in. Just can’t reply to anything.

also, like the other guy yesterday, even when I could post, I couldn’t post pictures. It would get to preview and then the OK button wouldn’t click.

Just FYI to those in charge. Don’t know of this is just me or others having the same problem.

This is another good reason to develop an app

    Karl, et al,

While I can appreciate the fact that for a lot of folks some hand held devices have replaced the computer, laptop or even an ipad, I am sure you all will appreciate in the almost three years PC has existed that there has not only been a the introduction of a large number of new devices, there has also been an abundance of browsers, different versions of browsers, various compatibility issues and serious problems for some folks to get on the site.

We can create an app and then we have doubled the issues we have to face on what seems like a daily event or we can stick with what we have and continue to try to keep up with the compatibility issues. Right now I am not aware of anyone with a phone capable of connecting to the internet having a problem reading the forum, posting or viewing the site. If that is correct what exactly will an app do that makes the investment justified.?

    FWIW,

I have to agree with Jon on this… generally speaking I don’t like apps…mainly because the actual website is much easier for me to navigate on… I use a touchscreen laptop with 8.1 and I love it… I also use an ipad Mini & an iphone 6+ … however I do go to Facebook, Ebay, & other sites on my phone and mini but not through the apps, as they annoy the you know what out of me… their websites are so much easier to navigate on for me it’s like a “full” version verses a “part” version… so I do understand what Jon is saying on that.

    Cheers, Diane

I don’t have a smart phone or an iPad or a tablet. I use a PC so an app wouldn’t bring any value to me.

As someone stated above, I am having problems on the iPad and iPhone. I had to log out, log in, backspace two pages and reload to get a reply button to type this reply.

The advantage to an app is that, presumably, you know when it changes its internal workings because you have to do it so that you don’t wake up one day and find that a browser update has broken your functionality.

Development should be pretty simple and inexpensive as the site is simple. An app would be little more than an interactive interface to your database.

I realize that many without smart phones don’t see the value in an app, but as more owners under 50 come around they probably will. It’s just a thought.

You ain’t that far from 50!!!!!!

I understand what you are saying but what I am trying to point out is that like with IE there is something in your browser or device that will make the trouble go away. We are wearing our web guru out trying to find problems on our end and every reported issue is forwarded to him. He then gets the device, browser, or whatever is needed to determine which end has the issue.

His feedback in most instances are “clear the cache” or “delete the browser and reload the latest version”, etc.

He appears to be over 50, but with the problems we are feeding him he may be aging prematurely.

Now I figured it out… Since I’m over 50, use my smart phone all day long for business and have no use for apps, I’m in the old fart category.:)

I must be doing it wrong because I find the apps harder to deal with than the full site. I’m used to the full site format and can easily maneuver around with no difficulty. I may need a lesson from Bonz. I’m all for updates and usually get smacked around pretty good when I suggest things like a app around Jon and our web dude, but I just don’t see the benefit.

I experienced th same problem of the missing reply tab. Seems to have started after the change requiring the log in before reading a thread. Have not been able to post until I read the log out and then back in technique and the reply tab reappeared.

    WOW!

When my partner eschews technology I must be in dreamland.

I have a question for those with issues………I open the site, hit the “Log In” button, and then a drop down box with my user name and password drops down. I click on it an I am instantly on the forum with all the features viewable and the system recognizing me as evidenced by the “Welcome Jon: greeting.

Two clicks and I am in with no issues reading posts, seeing the discount buttons, posting, loading photos, etc.

How are those of you with issues accessing the forum? If we have a glitch we need to fix it. If we can figure out why some are having difficulty we need to let you know where we think the problem is.

If you’re logged in and you leave the site open on your computer or device, the system disconnects you after a certain amount of inactivity time (I forget how long) for security reasons. Originally it was a short amount of time for the disconnect and we had some bitching, so we had the time extended to the maximum.

Here’s an example of why it does that. If George is at the library in WI and has PC pulled up on the library’s computer, then decides to go have a triple latte at Starbucks and forgets to log out (he’s getting old) the system will disconnect in time to prevent the kid with the bone in his nose from picking up where George left off and starts promoting legalizing weed in WI and in Jons case, over the counter blue pills.

What’s a blue pill and what is it for?

How do you know I am not the kid in the library with the bone in his nose? Who is this George fellow?
