  • For my education about engine looks

Posted by Ron on September 1, 2017 at 8:00 am

I am Looking at different engines. This engine looks clean but there looks as though there is somekind of leak and baked on stain coming out of the 3 pentagon discs (I do not know what those discs are). My question is: Is this a sign of over heating? If not what is it? Is it normal? Thanks for looking.

That’s normal.. This must be something other than a motorhome, lack of 50DN.

    Thanks Tom

It is in a 2000 Vision Prevost bus. Thanks Tom for pointing out that it has no 50dn. I have just been told that Visions have two altinators and there is no need for the 50dn.

Thats an interesting set up. Where is the water pump on that engine? Mine has alot more pulleys than that!

Hmmm.. 8 house batteries and Trace 4000 inverters and no 50DN, I don’t get it. Yes there’s 2 alternators, one for chassis and one for the house, but I didn’t realize there was a 270 or 300 amp alternator the size pictured. There’s 3 roof airs and oddly, the AC panel labels the two legs Converter not Inverter. Website

    Ben?

Ditto. I will guarantee that with the small alternators if that coach does not have OTR and you try to run house A/Cs while going down the highway you will be maxing out the house alternator and might not even be able to maintain a charge on the house batteries if you have other loads.

As to engine appearance…….it looks pretty clean, but a dirty engine is no indication it was not properly maintained, just that keeping it free of dust and dirty oil stains was not a high priority. The indication of maintenance is the records. If there are no records as far as I am concerned it was not maintained.
