  • For a Friend: slide problems

Posted by Tom on June 28, 2017 at 9:13 pm

A friend is having a problem with his ’03 XL 45 Marathon. His living room slide has decided to take a dump as he is on his way to Alaska.

Anyone got any thoughts about some troubleshooting ideas? The one thing….we don’t want to get the dang slide out and not be able to get it in!!!

Marathon suggested he seek out Prevost service….don’t think we’ll find that anywhere close to where we are…southern Yukon Territory!!!

    Thanks for the help…ty

What is it doing? What flash code do you get when it doesnt do what it is supposed to do? If you go outside while the other is trying to run it and watch in the 3rd bay drivers side, the control boxs for the slides are there and what lights are on….

Prevost had several versions of slide controls. Because of this when I inquired if Prevost had any advice for owners experiencing issues I was told that while there are ways to deal with problems the safest thing to do was to contact Prevost with the VIN and have the technician walk you through either the diagnosis or means of making the slide extend or retract.

Having said that I know on my version (which will differ from an 03) I can bypass the controls and manually operate my slides, but when I do that I am disabling all safety features and have to manually control all aspects of the slide operation in the correct sequence. A failure to do some things, and to do them in the correct sequence can do serious and expensive damage.

This presumes the slide is a Prevost slide.

All will be dependent upon the version of the slideout controls that you have. Verify with Marathon that it is not a Valid slide. If it is an 03 conversion then it most likely would be built on an 02 chassis. It shold have version 2 controls : the main slide out controllers in the third bay driver’s side will be blue and yellow. This version still has the linear transducer (Yo-Yo) to tell the system where the slide out is in relation to the opening.

What is the slide doing or not doing? The sequence to open the front slide out is 1. push the button for OUT. Tag axle should dump and the slide seal should deflate. If the seal deflates correctly, then the pins should retract. Once all the pins are out and the controller sees this, then the motor controller is activated and slide begins its journey out of the chassis. When the yo-yo signals that is is at the outer limit, then the controller stops the motor and the seal re-inflates. If you fail any of the steps, the slide will stop and yo will get fashing codes on the led by the seitch and on the ddddddiagnostic led onthe appropriate contoller below int he third bay.

So where do you get inthe above sequence when the slide stops?
