What kind of floor to use? We are going to do some upgrades to our coach, we like it and know the service history so we will keep it rather than trade up. that said we are going to put all “wood” flooring through out the coach, Liberty tells me not to use real wood because it will buckle, They use Mannington Adura when ask to put in a wood floor, This product comes in squares and planks, it snaps in and also glues down. I have been told to glue it down, As of now the coach has carpet in the entrance to the galley, marble from the galley to the bedroom, and carpet in the bedroom, Also have been told the marble is epoxyed down and is hard to get up. I really want to take it up because we do not like the way it looks, Has any body had problems with wood floors buckleing? Gary

Ernie Ekberg installed Mirage engineered wood floors in my ’02 Wanderlodge LXi. I could not have been more pleased. The engineered wood we used was 1/2″ thick overall with a 7 ply plywood laminate substrate and a 6mm (1/4″) wear layer of Sapele (African Mahogany) hardwood, which is thick enough to allow for future sanding and finishing. The engineered wood in my ‘bird was stable, didn’t shrink or warp. It easily handled the varying temperature and humidity swings within the coach. I cast a strong vote in favor of engineered woods. My only caveat is to choose a wood color, texture, and chararacter grade that hides the occasional knick or scratch. The “hand-hewed” look does a great job of this. Ernie is the expert on this topic – he specializes in installing wood floors in high-end motorcoaches and has done several Prevosts.

I have no experience with real wood flooring, and I do know however that for durability entertainer coaches use a synthetic material and it is glued in place. It was explained to me that gluing serves to eliminate issues with buckling and provides protection against spilled drinks which might be a common problem in entertainer coaches.
I like wood, but we have a man made material that looks like wood and nothing could be easier to clean. No scrapes, no dings when something is dropped on it and we have walked on it in street shoes (something we never did before) and it looks like it did when we bought the coach.

Jon, Is the floor in your coach factory installed when produced, If so it is a different material than mannington Adura, Dave Whisnoff said the floors are floated to exact tolerances and then the flooring is put down yours is a solid color product that is 1/8 in if I recall maybe Dave will chime in here, Any body out there with a Mannington floor? gary

I do not know the brand name of our flooring. It was not original, but was added to replace carpeting.
I think it was a vinyl or similar material and it was changed just prior to our purchase of the coach. It is about 1/8 thick, and has a surface texture and colors to simulate a wood surface. The original tile (marble?) flooring was retained and the new flooring was cut to fit precisely with the curved end configuration of the tile. Very well done.
I would suggest you include Jeff Rowe of East TN Luxury Coach as one of your potential installers. He not only has experience redoing Liberty Coaches I would feel comfortable with him knowing he knows how to remove and replace all the things that have to be removed to do the upgrade. He recently completed new flooring in an H3 (Liberty) and it really came out very nice.

We replaced all of our carpet and tile with engineered hardwood from Lumber Liquidators in 2009. The brand was Virginia Mills and we bought the hand scraped and distressed. It will not expand or contract and if you scratch or dent it then you add a little stain from the stain stick and it looks great.
After checking with several converters and entertainer guys I chose to glue it with Bostick.
I would suggest somebody that knows what they are doing because this is not a job for the faint of heart. I worked for years in trim work and me and two experienced floor guys worked most of five days with long lunches and lots of laugh breaks.

I’ve read good reviews about Ernie’s floor jobs on the Country Coach Owners site. Never a complaint.

Contact Ernie Ekbert on this site. One of the best flooring guys out there and reasonably priced. He just did his own Liberty and it looked great.
He may be or may have retired, but if he will still do the work you will be very happy with his work.

Ernie just finished a stellar job of replacing all our carpet with engineered wood flooring. His work is top drawer for sure.
