    Flat towing CJ7

    I just picked up an 85 CJ7 with T5 trans and 300 transfer case to see how we will like towing over renting cars where we stop. For anyone that has experience with towing older jeeps, did you tow with the front lockers set to 4WD? The owner’s manual states to put the transfer case in neutral, the trans in gear, key turned so steering wheel lock is not engaged, and turn the front lockers to 4WD for oiling axles. This last part seems strange, why would you want to spin the axles. When driving in 2wd they specificity state to not engage the lockers, but for towing they want them in 4WD. Any thoughts on this?

    I would post this in the Wanderlodge Owners Group Forum, there are many guys towing all years of jeeps, lots of experience and knowledge on this subject.
