Flat towing 2015 Ford 4×4 F150
Hello out there P/C members , Wilton Owens here. I’m sure this has been discussed before but i could not find where . I am planning to tow a 2015 Ford F150 and would like to know if any of you have experience with this vehicle.
Any feedback will be appreciated.

We tow a 2013 4×4 F150 4 door and it works fine, no problems. Very easy to get ready for towing. There is a dial on the dashboard that I have to turn from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive and back again to 2 wheel drive 5 times in 7 seconds or so and that puts the transfer case into neutral. The key does have to be left in the ignition and the transmission is left in neutral.
Check the owners manual for instructions on flat towing behind an RV. Make sure your model can be flat towed. I have made a rule to check the owners manual before I actually buy the vehicle to make sure the owners manual supports flat towing. Your tow bar needs to be rated for over 5000 lbs. Our truck is about 6300 lbs.

Thanks for the feedback , I am waiting for my Ford dealer to respond to see if any changes were made to the transmission /transfer case. The information that i have so far gives the sense that towing on a 2015 even with the transfer in neutral should be done on a limited basis.
Do you have any issues with battery drain due to the key left in position to keep the steering lock free?

No issues with battery drain so far. At every overnight stop I start the truck and put the transfer case back in gear and remove the key. Next morning I put the key back in and put transfer case in neutral. My owners manual has a section that covers towing by RV and does not give any warnings about “limited time or distance”. It is possible that the 2015 would be different then the 2013, so check carefully.

According to the 2015, January edition FMCA dinghy guide, the 2015 F-150 is towable four-down with NO speed or distance restrictions.
