  • First ever death wobble

Posted by Bill on August 8, 2025 at 10:54 am

We have towed a Jeep Libery for years and now tow a 2020 Jeep Cherokee (not Grand Cherokee) for the last 5 years. We have never experienced a death wobble with either Jeep. Yesterday, however, we were entering a very large circle with 2 lane entry. We were outside and moving slow. It appears the Jeep dropped off the pavement into the dirt just a few inches (or less) lower. As we continued to go around and the tires came back on pavement the coach started shaking hard. I looked back to see the Jeep dancing a jig! I had to come to a complete stop ‘in the circle” and immediately started moving again. All’s well, no further problems. Not sure what bad magic combination caused this to happen this time but not when previous similar situations popped up. Maybe right speed at wrong time but it was quite a jarring experience that ended as quickly as it started. I suppose all’s well that ends well!

My 2023 F150 did the dearh wobble more times than I want to count.

Each time I ws doing a left turn from a dead stop.

I was also getting outside edgewear on front tires.

Had my alignment shop set caster to a negative and edge wear stopped.

I also put a clamp on my hitch to eliinate any wobble as a member on forumn suggested.

To date no more wqbble and the tires are not edge wearing . I hope to get 40K out of them.

One tire shop said he had people with a certain tire get excessive edge wear and installed a new set with a different brand and no more cupping.
