Fire in Canyon Lake, CA RV storage
The local media said that forty (40!) RVs were destroyed. Canyon Lake is in Riverside County, east of Los Angeles.
CANYON LAKE, CA — A fire broke out Wednesday at a storage yard in Canyon Lake, where approximately 40 RVs were destroyed by the flames, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
The three-alarm blaze was reported at 2:33 p.m. at 22229 Loch Lomond Drive.
The fire sent up a thick cloud of black smoke across the region, and witnesses in the area reported multiple explosions coming from propane tanks.
A breathing support unit was called to the scene, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Seventeen engine companies and 75 firefighters were summoned to the blaze. In addition to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department, crews with Corona Fire Department, Murrieta Fire & Rescue, and Riverside Fire Department were assisting. Canyon Lake is a gated city with a single fire engine on duty.
One firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was being treated by paramedics, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
Southern California Edison was also called to the scene. The SCE website showed just over 100 customers were without power in the area. Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department reported powerlines were down.
The Canyon Lake Property Owners Association enforces strict parking rules in the small city of approximately 11,000 people. According to the property owners’ manual, recreational vehicles, fifth wheels, and camping trailers may not park on Canyon Lake streets for an extended period. The community is home to many outdoor enthusiasts who utilize Canyon Lake for water sports and other recreational activities.
There was no word on what sparked the blaze, but a fire investigator was at the scene. An estimated containment time was not available.
No Canyon Lake residents were under evacuation during the incident, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
