Featherlite peculiarities
Our 2000 Featherlite XLV 2 slide with rivets and no slide air seals is equipped with a headhunter toilet and water pump. When bus is connected to shore water, we must turn on 110v water pump to get toilet to flush. On a previous coach (2002 Marathon XLII we needn’t switch water pump on with shore water hose connected to get toilet to flush. Is this charactrristic of Featherlite set up, or is something amiss

I’m pretty sure that it has to do with pressure needed to operate the Headhunter toilet.
Marathon used very few Headhunters, they mainly used Microphor and Tecmas which operate nicely with shore water and a accumulator tank, water pump not needed.

Our 2002 Marathon XLII Marathon had headhunter pump and toilet. Didn’t need to switch water pump on with shore water, the pump came on when toilet flushed. Yes we live Microphor electrics

Then I wonder if we have a pressure switch somewhere that is supposed to activate water pump to flush toilet when shire hose is connected that’s gone bad

Jim, what year is your bus? What water pump? Our toilet is a Headhunter and had the original Grunfeld X pump, since replaced with a mach 5. We must have the water pump switched on to flush. Geo.

A Headhunter toilet requires a combination of high pressure and a high volume of water. I cannot be certain I will get either or both on municipal water supplies such as in a CG, so our Headhunter water pump is on when we are in the bus. It delivers both.
However, any water pump can fail so I modified the plumbing system to the toilet to include an accumulator tank dedicated to the toilet so my small 1.4 GPM (60PSI) back up water pump would make the toilet flush if needed.

Our headhunter also needs to be on to flush as well . There is a pressure switch built in to the pump . Not sure if that has a predetermined setting . For this reason i carry a spare headhunter pump . Then again I carried a spare on our BB also . Like they say if you have a back up you will never need it . Thats fine with me . At least with the BB the pump was only 100 dollars and not 650 .

Joel, Thanks the flushing update. Do you leave pump switch on all the time with shore hose connected? So even running kitchen sink, pump comes on. I know all these waterpumps are residential booster pumps.
Now where would they, Featherlite, hide the external cable TV attachment. Manual states ahead of driver side drive tire???? Nowhere to be found. Anyone have a hint

Chris, We leave pump on all the time unless we’re gone from the bus for any length of time. We always pump from the tank and not city water. thre should be a cable conn. in the water bay/drivers side, down low LH side. Geo.

I think how a conversion is set up determines how we hook up in campgrounds. On all our coaches because of how the installed pump provided far better and more consistent water flow, we only used the municipal water connection to fill the tank. Once the tank was filled we turned off the faucet.
The good news with that was the second benefit. Any time we filled the water tank, we also dumped the holding tank. Doing it that way we never had a concern about an overfull holding tank and with relatively large volumes of waste water in the holding tank the heavy initial flow always seemed to scour the bottom of the holding tank.
Always using the pump also gave us an indication of the health of the accumulator tank.

I’m not sure a featherlite is set up exactly like mine but…
When in campground, I install a pressure regulator at cg hose bib (some coaches may have regulator built in) to limit pressure to 60 psi. Valves are open allowing cg water to coach system. Cg water is on, pump is on.
The on board water pump will only come on and pump from fresh water tank when the coach demand exceeds supply and water pressure drops to pump cut-in pressure which is seldom. As I recall, I may have slightly modified the original system with a couple check valves to keep my pump from backfilling the cg if it’s pressure is low. My coach has the headhunter auto fill for fresh tank.
I leave my waste tank valve open. Opinions on this vary.
If I’m concerned about a plumbing failure when I’m not in coach, I need to turn off pump and turn of cg hose bib.

I follow the same procedures as Jon does as far regarding using city/campground water, turning the spigot off when the fresh water tank is full, and using the filling of fresh water as an opportunity to dump.
The last thing we need is a pyramid or cone in the holding tank.

we can only fill our fresh tank by solenoid. There is no gravity fill. Nutz :-(((
