  • Featherlite front louvers

Posted by Chuck & Katrina on March 27, 2021 at 8:55 pm

Got all the big things out of the way, now starting the the incidental things. Front lovers behind bumper and in front of the Cruiseair units on my Featherlite have never worked (always open). Put some air to them today and they do close! but leak a lot of air from the fittings and plunger. How much difference do the louvers make when closed and going down the road? Is it worth fixing?

I have noticed some warm air in the summer and cool air in the winter coming in around my feet. Assume if the louvers are closed less air will come in the front cabin area and maybe quieter too.

    Any thoughts?

    Chuck

Chuck when closed it should limit the amount of air going into the bus, but I believe and I could be wrong that its function is for cooler exterior conditions the flaps will close off making sure the pressures get up to temp on your cruisair systems

With them open the cold air can really be felt. With them closed the driver can feel the heat. I would always want them to work because when the outside temps are single digits open shutters make it hard to get warm.

That open/close valve is a Prevost part, not specific to any converter.

    Rrental:

Look in my parts manual and online, don’t find any info on the plunger.

Do you happen to know where I can find info for replacement?

The other day I discovered this louver while cleaning the front compartment.

How is this louver controlled? Is there a switch somewhere that opens and closes it?

    Thanks,

We have an ON/OFF switch on our dash

As Don says there is likely an open-close switch on the dash, or the converter may have wired or plumbed them to open or close automatically depending on if the bus heating and A/C system is calling for heat (closed) or cool (open).

Thank you, I will double check the dash to see if I missed anything.

Installed a temporary valve and air hose to the louver and closed it for a 300 mile trip. It is bad and leaking air but not so bad that the louvers wouldn’t stay closed for my test drive.

Maybe I just want to believe it, but I think I had less air/wind noise on my entry door and the front drivers area seamed to stay cooler with the outside air temp being in the 80s when the louvers were closed.

Does anyone know where to purchase a new plunger/actuator?

Chuck, try Greg Courtney – he seems to know a source for all those hard to find parts,
