  • Fan Gear Box Pulley

    All,

i always do a general check around the engine before I shutdown. I did a quick 40 minute run around yesterday. While doing my engine back check I noticed grease slung on the frame. I shutdown the engine and saw that the gear box pulley is the culprit. Looks like there is a really thin metal cover that has worked its way free. Behind that metal ring ire the bearings that are barely noticeable.

I presume I need to replace the pulley. I do not find the part number in the part catalogue. The pulley is a three run design with deep grooves. Please let me know where I can find this replacement part.

i have a long trip coming up and there is no way I am going to take the coach anywhere slinging this grease.

I had a gear box drive pulley on my 87 coach and it had a grease fitting. Anything more than a small bit of grease and it threw grease everywhere. A small shot every 5000 miles and no grease sprayed around. It lasted without any problems for the 250,000 miles on coach when I sold it and probably a lot longer because it was still tight, no wobble and no bearing noise.

Thanks, Jon. There is no wobble at all in the get box and since I have found the o-ring for the dip stick she is very dry.

I did put grease last weekend after I parked after an extended drive. Looks like I put in too much. I will keep a watch on this.

    Thanks again, Jon.

I found out about the grease the same way you are. Until I figured out how little was really required I spattered black grease all over in line with the pulley.
