  • Fan clutch testing

    Hey I am changing radiator, and CAC. Figured I would test the radiator fan clutch while everything is easy to get at. So I did some testing with engine off and key on. When I pull in the high speed coil it locks up solid. All good. When I pull in the low speed coil it pulls in and has some drag but not much. With it in low speed belts tight I can still spin the fan. To the point if I wasn’t testing it I could not tell the difference between low and off.

    My question is this. How much friction is normal in low speed.

    Not much friction is normal for low speed and solid is normal for high speed.

    Test to do at the 3 prong(A, B, & C) fan clutch connector:

    A is for low speed, gets 24+volts on the bus side of the conector, and 30-36 ohms between A to C on the fan side of the connector;

    B is for high speed, gets 24+ volts on the bus side of the connector, and 14-17 ohms between B to C on the fan side of the connector;

    C is ground
