well it’s been 5 months since I posted a fried fan clutch. Seized and won’t turn locked out. Same damn think today. Can someone remind me of who is our best Prevost contact? Met somebody at one of the seminars but lost the card.

    thanks

Gary, you do not say where your are from or who did the previous replacement, but the first call is to the shop that replaced it and get on the schedule for a free replacement.

If you do not get satisfaction go to the Prevost Car web site and see if you can get the regional service manager to help. If not him, move up the chain and get Kevin Laughlin who has overall responsibility to get involved.

Something is wrong and if you don’t hold their feet to the fire you end up paying serious money, and they are unaware of a problem that they may have to resolve.

The life span of these clutches sucks, but 5 months is ridiculous.

thanks, but we broken down in BFE outside of S Padre Island in May. No way to get them to fix it. I’m in Tucson now so will need another installer. Doing pre trip inspection today and it froze up in two miles going to air up tires. Prevost is telling me part is back order and don’t know when I can get it. Sucks had Abq balloon fiesta reservations for a year now. Have call into Jacob Hernandez my regional guy. Got voice mail. I’ll see if I can get the guy you referenced above

Gary, have you tried WW Williams in Tucson? They have a pretty good reputation out of Grand Rapids, MI as they do Prevost chassis/engine work for Panterra and Holland motor homes. I stopped at their Tucson shop earlier this year to pick up coolant and they said they had recently rebuilt a Series 60 in a Prevost motorhome and they may also work on passenger busses. I can’t vouch for them anymore than that. They also have a pretty good network through the country in case it happens again. Just a thought.

Find out who repairs the tour buses in Tucson and see if they have a clutch in stock? They may also have a parts inventory for their region.

I’m a little lost here. If the clutch itself seized up, wouldn’t it simply turn the fan all the time at a 1:1 ratio?

I was thinking the same thing if it froze up wouldn’t it be 1:1 and keep an eye on it and go, I bet the buses line drivers keep going.

No it freezes the fan shaft with it. Interstingly the replacement that went in 2 weeks ago, 1150 miles is leaking already. Prevost has gotten involved, bus currently at their recommended repair facility in Phoenix for complete evaluation. Think it maybe. Electrical related. Will update when then find the source, but will be helpful to have whatever they find checked if you need a clutch as well.

Sure sounds like a very bad batch of bearings (China?) if they freeze up after 5 months. Can the bearings be replaced?

Leaking? Didn’t know there were any hydraulics in it.

prevost thought maybe electrical cause to the failure . Had it checked by prevost recommended place in Phoenix. Could not find a problem after checking everything they could think of. Decided the latest one 3wks old was in fact ok and what looked fresh was dried globed black stuff they attributed to the fried insulator material from the last one. Anyway waiting to get refund on parts warranty , and Prevost covered the labor evaluation.
