Fan Belt guards
Posted by gary on November 24, 2012 at 5:38 amJust curious as to how many Liberty owners have removed the Fan belt guard,” that chrome plated thing that hides the belts” If it were off you could see the belts and other pulleys, Thinking about removing the thing and put it on the shelf with that onerous thing called a bra. Mine bra has been setting on the shelf for three years, yea I hear Tom now, a clean mind? I advocvate braless coaches and ladies. My wife did not see this post! Gary

That fan belt cover was thefirst thing I removed. It is the only way to inspect belts and tensioner, not to mention looking for leaks.

mine’s off, with the bra. I did install a clear shield to the front, like tint.

As soon as the bus was in my garage the shield came off. It is nothing but eye candy and actually inhibits a good pre-trip inspection.
But on the current coach I am wearing my bra. I suspect that will create a few mental images among the twisted minds that populate this site. The bra is a PITA and I am still trying to decide if protection agains dings is worth the effort. Any CC owners who still have the shield want to jump in on this? It’s a toss up regarding whether the bra or plastic looks worse, but at least I can roll up the bra and throw it in the bay when parked.

Never leave the bra on while sitting in the hot sun! For you guys
with XL2’s, your glue will melt and the front of your bus will fall
off. Then you will drive over it leaving the stainless and bra for
the campground guy to gather up who will list it on e-bay as a
slightly used part for a Proovosst. For the XL’s, it could damage
and warp the stainless, but at least the rivets will hold up.Seriously though, the heat from the sun cooking the bra will do
serious damage to the front of your bus under certain conditions.
It’s a PIA, but I had one for my Liberty and used it religiously.
Taking it on and off only took a few minutes and it protected the
front of the bus well. I had rock from a gravel cruncher the size of
a golf ball hit the front and the bra saved the day. Also, take it
off when it’s wet.Jon using a bra, priceless… This is the same guy who for 20
years has been calling all the bra users sissy’s and bragging
about dinged up front ends being a badge of honor!Gary – For a hundred bucks, I won’t sent Megan a copy of your
post! -
Tom is going to extremes to make a point but there is truth in his recommendation to remove the bra when done driving.
A bra may prevent most dings. but the downside is the bra damages the paint and stainless if the owner does not remove it after driving and clean the front of the coach and the rear of the bra. Coaches that have had the bra on for an extended period of time without routine removal show damage from rubbing on the paint and stainless. All that fine dust we get on the coach from driving is getting between the bra and the coach. It may not seem so, but the bra moves ever so slightly when it is installed and over time that dust which is abrasive is rubbed against the stainless and paint by the bra.
When I bought my 97 it showed substantial damage and wear to the paint and stainless from the bra. I did not use the bra and the cost was the coach got stone chips and dings.
I am now using the bra on the current coach, but the minute I see wear damage I will have to decide if I prefer that kind of damage or if I prefer chips and dings.

Mine got wet in the rain one day when I got home forgot to take it off . Took it off the next morning to late! It was already wet behind the 3M Let it set in the sun ” summertime” two weeks and it went away. no problem since, but I was lucky. Jon is right as rain if you gonna use it clean it and the front everyday gary

My clear tint bra is effective for most everything. I have it on all of the cars as well. Not cheap, but it isn’t intrusive and you don’t have to take it off.
Nothing simple is going to stop a golf ball sized rock, but the odds of hitting it are low enough. This stuff does stop the little stuff, and bugs too!
