FAN BELT GARD REMOVAL
Thinking about taking the chrome piece that covers the fan belts off.You can not see the condition of the belts with it on. It takes a large screw diver to remove it, some coaches have wing nuts but mine has philips head screws. and would be tough to remove with out that big tool, This would allow me to see the condition of everything very quickly and make working or changing the belts easy. Any one done this?

That was the first thing I modified on my 2003 Liberty. It seemed like nonsense to conceal so much of the engine bay. Not only is it critical to keep an eye on the belts, but also the bellows, AC compressor, and to look for leaks.
I removed it and saved the hardware… the someday next owner can make whatever decision that works for them.

Gary would you or anyone else reading this be interested in getting rid if the covers for the belts? I’d like to put them on mine and have been looking for them. Other than making my own, finding some take offs like yours would save me lots of time!

Ace, mine was removed about 3 seconds after I had the coach home and I have no intentions of putting it back on because of the reasons stated above. It is not shippable, and because my coach is an XL it may not work on your H, but if you can get to Knoxville you are welcome to see if it will fit.
I’m sure we can work out a reasonable price such as filling my long range tanks with diesel or trading for a new set of Michelins or some such modest compensation.

Good move Gary, like you and others, that thing would have been removed in a nano second if I owned it. It made it pretty and I suppose there is merit with regard to safety for those careless people who might get their clothes or hands caught in the moving belts.

Reading these post on a belt cover in the Liberty engine compartment has me wondering why all the Liberty guys need to look there ?
Marathon owners rarely ever go into that area….no need to.

In my excitement to swap my highly polished, well engineered, absolutely gorgeous belt guard that is so fabulous Marathon owners lust for one, I forgot to consider my coach is a Series 60 and the belt configuation might be different on your coach. Take that into consideration when thinking of an appropriate item to trade.

Don’t forget the Liberty guys also have a habit of showing off their highly polished plumbing Al…..especially the older ones.

Mine to was removed immediately. It now lives high in top of the bus barn. To properly check the vehicle before the dailey drive these things are a pain.
