I am in Florida this week and I plan to drive the car from the Ft. Myers area to Key West tomorrow. We would like to make a stop or two in the Everglades on the way. Any recommendations on routes or interesting stops. We will stay in the keys two days and then back up the east coast of Florida.

Stop at Everglades Isles in Everglade City. You’ll really enjoy if for a night or two and then the airboats will drive you nuts. First class resort, but don’t know how it stacks up in the summertime, I hear skeeters are a big problem. We stayed there 20 days in February and the faciltiy was fantastic, but the airboat noise was too much for us.

If your goal is really to visit Key West, you might want to consider the ferry. The trip across Alligator Alley isn’t much to look at. Although driving the chain of the keys is worth it if you haven’t done it, it can be very slow.

OK, thought you were in the bus. There’s a pretty decent Motel (B&B) right next to Everglades Isles Resort and if the kids are with you, an airboat ride will make there day.

Thanks, folks. We drove across I-75 today and enjoyed it. We stopped at about every recreation area a had a look around. The drive down Hwy 1 was good as well. We ran the speed limit all the way. It is beautiful here this time of year but Hot so the crowds are thinner.

Ditto ; on what Gil say’s on the Florida Keys. Can be slow, but nothing like it any place on the planet.

We have been there twice and enjoy the whole Keys experieence. Stayed at Bluewater and Grassy RV parks. It’s well worth the trip with lots to do in Key West.
