Equal Cores
I am in Troy, OH this weekend and was hoping to find a shop locally to get some equal cores installed and also attach the New Kane hub covers that Sid suggested… I talked to a local shop that was an Equal dealer and he said the reason the installing shop might not have installed them is I might not have the right stems… he said the equal cores were about 1.5″ long and I have bent stems which I do on several positons that the stems might not be long enough…
Has anyone using Equal run into this before?
Jon, I am going to order some of the “fill thru” caps you suggested to play it safe but would like to try to get the correct cores in there if I can…

Bill,
I would think all your stems are long enough for the cores. I believe the cores are about 1 1/2″ long.

If there’s not enough distance between the core and bend in the valve stem you can install new valve stems or put these equal extensions on.

Those caps are worth their weight in gold. I can see how the short stems might be a problem but the dealer should have offered a solution.

It’s like most things… something so easy turns out to be more complicated.
I decided to wait until my next stop to get this all sorted out. If the stems need to be replaced I want to make sure I am taking it to a reputable shop that has experience with equal and all that..
My guess is to remove/change the stems you have to unmount the tires? If that is the case, then I could have them confirm equal is in all tires etc.
The root problem is all the tire work was done by the seller… date codes are all good but I have no paperwork on what was done and who did it.
Sid I have the new Kane covers just caught up with them this weekend they look great… I hope to get them installed next week with the equal cores so we can cross this off the list and keep rolling…

Bill, The tires do not have to be removed from the wheel. I have broken the bead and been able to get my hand in to tighten the seal on the valve stem on my coach. I wouldn’t assume the valve stems need replacement anyway until you verify that to be the case. It might be the tires don’t have Equal.
