  • engine washing ALARM

Posted by Chuck & Katrina on March 16, 2019 at 9:14 am

Was recently at a facility in S FL that had great water pressure. Good time to clean the engine compartment on my new to me 2000 H3-45. For the next two days while parked we noticed a very faint alarm coming from the dash area (no visual alarms were displayed) that would appear and disappear randomly.

Jump ahead 3 days – driving North on Fl Tpk (in Miami traffic) engine fire alarm goes off. Definitely gets your attention! Pulled off to side of road and checked, everything is OK. Shut down bus, shut off ALL battery disconnects, alarm still going off. Turn everything back on, alarm still going off. Stood by the drivers seat scratching my head then said out loud “come on you stupid alarm, stop going off, nothing is wrong” IT STOPPED. OK now that I know how to stop the alarm we got back on the road.

About 15 minutes later same thing happens, but alarm stopped before I could say the magic words. Still stopped and checked everything for safety. Went through this drill about a half a dozen times then just keep driving north with Fire Alarm coming and going at random times.

From reading different threads on PC I am not the first to get the engine washing alarm. How or what do you do to stop the attention getting alarm once its determined its a false alarm and you need to keep driving?

Use a different soap next time when you wash the coach.

    Hay Dick:

Do you think using DOVE (the gentler soap) would have worked better? LOL

Probably every outside electric connection is water proof in your bus.

BUT…nothing will stop water with 1500 psi pushing into all the cracks. Over the years many posts relating to issues after pressure washing engine area.

Seriously? A different soap? How about not spraying water, especially from a pressure washer all around an engine compartment, and especially around any electrical components or devices.

With luck the fire sensors will dry out and begin working OK again.

Different soap, Dick, I’m starting to worry about you.

I use simple green and a hose set on shower, gentle rinse and don’t get any water near the fire sensors.

    Jon:

It was just a garden hose not a pressure washer. Thought I was careful where I sprayed the water, guess I wasn’t careful enough.

Got to get the dirt off to find leaks easier.

Tom described the best way to do it.
