Robert, 2004 model yr. is most likely an ’03 shell. Should be non-emission motor. DEF didn’t start until 2012 shell yr., I think. Geo.

Robert, probably an 03 shell, could have EGR, but possibly not. DEF was not until around 2010, DPF on 2007 models (for big trucks, not sure what Prevost did then).

Techinally from what I read DDEC2 was kind of the last non emission engine, the later DDEC had low nox tunes to deal with emissions, and even now if you go get a DDEC4 programmed at dealer they will update with an even a more agrerssive emissions tune that will decrease economy.

You can deal with EGR pretty easily if its has it. Get serial # off the valve cover and run it by your DD dealer.

Just look at the engine. That year is nowhere near the DEF model year, however the engine can be an EGR engine.

Just look for the EGR cooler low on the driver’s side of the block, and a crossover tube going up and around the engine and joining the intake manifold on the passenger side. In the center of the crossover tube is a short section of orange colored tubing held in place with spring clamps.
