  • Engine clean up

Posted by Art on June 21, 2018 at 8:04 pm

Did a little engine clean up, simple green and elbow grease and a can of some Detroit Diesel SD1-5237 spray paint before and after tested 2 colors 1st was 8v paint a little to green. The Detroit series 60 paint looks like the new stiffener brackets I just put on.

Looks good Art, now all you have to do is get rid of that manual adjuster.

Looks great! How did you keep from getting the accessories and the bolt heads from getting painted too? Did you remove all that stuff?

I did remove belt adjuster and that little black angle by crank and small air bag but the bolts I slide a piece of hose over bolts to paint then removed, that auto adjuster isn’t that real $$$

Art, the auto adjuster is really cheap. The next time you find yourself parked next to Tom, just wait until he heads out to eat, grab your tools, pop his hood and in 10 minutes flat, you are the owner of an auto-adjust. However, be kind and leave the old manual adjuster laying on the belts before you close the hood.

I would also have to move the oil fill and buy a cover to mount the new auto adjuster to?

Art, you might call W.W.Williams Parts Direct at 800-701-9993 and ask them if they have a “Kit” and that would include the changed oil filler.
