I will direct this to my two old friends that have crossed over to the Freightshaker side and who both constantly bitched about Crapco mirrors on our buses.
You guys didn’t wait long enough. Prevost has a new system where the bus has no mirrors. Finally becoming available.
Camera lens mounted on the hole where the mirror bolted and a split screen on the B pillar.
I asked about redundancy and was told it has some sort of backup.
Retro kits are available. I heard a little south of 10k, whoooa.

Anything would be an improvement over Crapco you ole gear jammer. 10K, chump change in the Prevost world. Getting used to a pillar display vs mirrors would be a challenge. Wonder what the backup system would be…

I don’t see Jon ever being ok with mirrorless mirrors. I am also a bit surprised DOT would approve it. I haven’t seen anything like that on a truck have you Bernie?

Hi Bill,
No I have not seen or heard about it for trucks. Too expensive until someone builds a cheaper mousetrap. It’s been around a couple years but the rona virus stalled it.
I’m not a fan of any camera driver aids. We were taught and preached to others to scan mirrors every 3 seconds with continuous eye movement for many reasons. Always know what’s around you so you had an out.
I don’t know if this screen is on 1 pillar with 2 views or 1 on each side. What I do like is blind spot view because people do not check mirrors enough and that eliminates that but it’s also a tool to let drivers be lazy.
This is another item they come out with that an experienced driver might like this but we say it on here so many times that it would not be something I would want a new guy to learn with. I’m a firm believer you have to learn the old school way before you start with the gadgets.

Why doesn’t Prevost just force crapco to fix the damn mirrors. It is not only the wobbles but for the cost of the shitty mirrors you would think they would add a copper plating as primary in the plating process so the mirrors would last.
$10,000 to fix a $100 dollar problem makes me think the government is running Prevost.
I have a Liberty rear camera display and I cannot see it worth a damn at night with headlight glare, during the day when a white shirt is reflected back at me from the screen or the sun washes it out. Who thinks of this insanity????????

The mirrors on my Tiffin are darn near perfect.
Only thing I would change would be memory settings for 2 drivers. My 2005 Suburban had that feature for seats and mirrors.

I am starting to see trucks with cameras mounted to the mirror housings that display to a monitor mounted on the drivers side inside front door frame, vertically mounted with two displays. To me, that seems like a big distraction that would be confusing in heavy traffic or some emergency situation.
I just appreciate that my Freightliner mirrors are very clear and don’t shake like the Crapco mirrors on all of my Prevost’s did. Even the new ones that Prevost installed on my XLII under warranty still shook the day they were installed.
Now if I could get the TPMS system to work as well as the Prevost one, I would be very happy.
