  • Electrical shut down sequence

Posted by Dan on July 16, 2017 at 6:20 pm

Going to American Fleet for a slide out to adjust the overhead (valves, injectors, and jakes). My notes suggest the following sequence to shut down electronics. But these notes were made to swap in new house batteries some years ago. So would like to know if this works for Detroit removal.

    1) No shore power

    2) Unplug watchdog

    3) Turn off inverters

    4) Turn off inside control panel breakers to inverters

    5) Turn off 12 volt and 24 volt masters switches (in engine bay)

    6) Turn off inverter master in house battery bay

    Dan,

Your coach may be different, but when we were there last month, we left the inverters on, and they plugged us in to 15-Amp 110V so the refrigerator would stay on.

Did they have to remove your engine?

Yes they did. I had an oil leak at the rear crank bearing, so they had to separate the engine and transmission to fix it. I also needed the new style tappets. They started early in the morning, and by 10 AM the next day, the coach was ready.

    Dan,

When I had my overhead and updated engine bracket installed last Spring (same place as Truk), I wasn’t plugged in and I left everything on, operating off my batteries. No reason to turn everything off for something that took around four hours. They DID NOT have to pull my engine, since they had access thru the rear passenger side compartment to my engine.

However, your set-up/access may certainly be different on an XL.
