  • Elect/Radiator bay upgrade on 97 Royale XL40

    Hi group,

    Thanks to our members who have served, least we forget.

    I was wondering if any member has “modernized” the 12v control area in the 2nd bay curbside.

    With a little rearranging the space could be more user friendly, and fuses more accessable. Has anyone a slide in that space to the south of the gen radiator?

    In upgrading inverters has anyone gone from the 2 Freedoms to a single inverter?

    I would think that the 12v DN50 240a would be charging my 12v bank to where I could run 1 roof air off the inverters.

    Is there a basic electric schematic for the Royale of my vintage out there?

    Jonathan,

    I have noted that almost every conversion can be tweaked to make minor improvements. I see from your post you are suggesting your 97 Royale could benefit also.

    I don’t know the extent of your experience, and I am sure not familiar with the Royale but I can make some general comments. Our electric panels and banks of relays and fuses rarely have to be accessed. You would have to measure the cost and effort to re-arrange your electric panels to improve access versus that effort you currentloy have to expend.

    Generally speaking, coaches with a 12 volt house were converted using a smaller 24 volt alternator dedicated to the chassis as long as the chassis did not have over the road air. The 50 DN became a 12 volt output unit to provide power for the house and to maintain the 12 volt house batteries. But at 12 volts an air conditioner is likely going to pull 130 amps so keep in mind when not on shore or generator power running one AC unit is going to consume about 1/2 of the available 50 DN output. That is a good use of the output but any more loads on the house side would make running the generator a better choice.

    The reason for 2 inverters is back-up. If one fails the remaining inverter will still charge the house batteries off of shore or generator power.If you only have one and it fails the only option is to run the bus engine to charge the batteries.
