EEPROM WRITE ERROR
Immediately after cranking engine a EEPROM write error occurs and the check engine light comes on. A fluids are good and I have driven about 2 thousand miles with light on with no problems. Any ideas without buying new ECM or whatever?

The ECU is trying to store something in the EEPROM (erasable programmable memory) and gets an error. It may be location specific. EEPROM cells/locations can only be rewritten so many times. All the people with solid state disk drives will figure this out in time too.
Should not cause any driveability issues but DDEC may not be able to keep track of hours/miles etc.
The EEPROM chip might be replaceable by a good electronic repair shop.

I had the same issue on a earlier coach Dan and it won’t cause you any issues except the CE light being on. I had the option to have is reprogrammed at DD, but the downside was if the reprogramming went bad, the only option was a new ECM. Mine was intermittent and eventually never came back on again.

I believe that is the same code mine was throwing when I went to look at in in March of 2008. The salesman told me, “Don’t worry about that, it is nothing.” He said that about 50 items but this one did worry me. I called two entertainer bus friends and they said I should insist on having it checked out.
I made resolving of that code part of the deal. The Allison guy came and “flashed” the memory on the computer. It made it to about 90% and then failed. The only option was replacement at that point as Tom pointed out. The salesman was not happy at all. After salesman stomped out the Allison guy told me that it may have never presented a problem but replacing it was costly.
They did replace it.

Ok , I see because I had to put in a new ECM in it because of a non volatile code 53 in October of 2013 and updated it to a DDEC 4 ,But it was the battery inside the ECM that went dead , I could have drove it forever and no problems maybe but when it would have decided to crap out that’s it you are on side off road !!!! It flashed the code 53 on the dash, that’s how I knew about it only did it that once ( flashed the code)

Ken was a big help at the time. It never did it again and if I remember is was a write error of some sort. For what was going on at the time DD said it wasn’t the battery. Who knows…

Tom was not saying it was related,,, just that I had a code one time in October and 3 days later I replaced the ECM because of the code , DD said it might go forever but if it crapped out I would be on the side of the road and would need a new one so I updated it from a DDEC 3 to a DDEC 4 at prevost Mia Loma right next to the DD dealer so I would not have that trouble on road
