  • Dumpimg Gray Tank

Posted by George on December 18, 2019 at 10:50 pm

Some of post on gray tank dumping seem to suggest dumping indiscriminately. Is there a real group of persons dumping as they drive down highway or at rural locations?

Unfortunately some RV owners act irresponsibly and because of their actions a lot of parking restrictions have been put in place and perception of all RV owners has been tainted a little.

Generally dumping of gray water has to be approved by the owner of a facility. We have had several rally locations with no on site sewer hookups, but gray water dumping on the ground was allowed.

There have been Prevost owners whose dump valves or macerators can be operated via a switch at the dash and those owners have dumped both black and gray while driving or while parked over a storm sewer grate, such as in a parking lot.

Yes you can dump gray water under certain circumstances, but should have permission to do so, and dumping of anything from the holding tank while on the road is just wrong.

With the exception, of course, of Liberty owners whose effluent has already been processed into a harmless, clear waterlike substance infused with rose petals.

As Joel so eloquently points out … not a problem if your coach was converted in North Chicago!!!

Dumping of grey or black tank in a storm sewer is irresponsible.

    GMJDW,

Keep in mind Liberty owners like the two above might be making stuff up, or maybe not. I have to have my rose petal dispenser hose connected to a campground sewer connection.

You can always tell if a Liberty owner is in the campground, your nose will point you to the bus with the leaking aluminum holding tank.

On our Marathon, Jimmy reprogrammed the tech link system dash mounted buttons for black water and grey water to dump after pressing button continuously for 5 seconds. In other words, I now have the James Bond feature to dump while going down the road or while staying inside the coach.

Back in 04 Dave Matthews Band dumped their tanks while crossing Kinzie Street Bridge over the Chicago River. Sheet landed on tourists in a boat below.

Dumb question, has anyone ever re-plumbed and used gray water in their toilet and turned gray water into Black?

Huh. Interesting thought. Might be difficult to do on a Liberty.

John Patrick………. I know of a fellow that used the ability to dump his tanks while traveling. He explained how he expected it to fertilize the grass in the median. What he failed to understand is we have a large low pressure area directly behind our coaches, and at highway speeds the content of his holding tanks were pulled behind the coach, and his brand new Grand Cherokee got covered.

If you are going to hold your buttons for 5 seconds you might want to consider being stopped.

BTW, the ability to dump from the driver’s seat is not to irritate the people sharing the road with you, but to allow you to dump the tanks when you are in the campground on a rainy day so you don’t have to get wet.

Pat, Interesting, my 02 and 04 Marathon grey and black button on the dash was only a warning light that the dump was open and had no function.

I was thinking about recycling gray water to be used in the toilet not reuse in the shower or sink. That being said:

If you notice as you drive all the grass cutting mowers/tractors along the interstates now have enclosed cabs. Some think this is for the comfort of the driver, heating and air conditioning but they serve another task.

As truckers were pressed harder and harder to make more miles in their rigs they were forced or chose to reduce their stops for urinary breaks and kept milk jugs in their rigs to relieve themselves and they threw the full jugs out the window as they drove at night. They unsuspecting State mowing crew with hit the urine jugs and the mower blades destroyed the plastic jugs spewing urine everywhere and many times getting a spray bath of nasty stuff. So now they have enclosed mower cabs for the workers.
