  • Dump valves not working

Posted by Chris on June 24, 2020 at 2:02 pm

Came to the coach today to prepare for a short trip. Unplugged, wound in the cord and moved outside. Once outside cord won’t come out and switches no power. Checked it out. 25 amp fuse blown. Replaced fuse everything now works except dump valves not working. Tech link screen not working. switched have power and are grounded. At a loss as where to look now.

Can you reboot the system to see if that will wake it back up? I sometimes have had to do that with all my coaches…maybe some Marathon guy will pipe up if they have anything else.

Well, problem solved after a lot of tracing the power. It turns out the little crappy Prevost light switch is used by Marathon to ground all the water bay controls. There are two ground wires to the water bay. One grounds the reel, sewer in and out and drop door. The other one grounds the monitor and dump valves.

the initial issue was the water bay fuse. Replacing it powered up the reel etc but there was no power to the dump valves etc. using my meter there was 12 volts to the switches in the black wire. Tracing it back one of the ground wires at the cheap ass light switch was loose and corroded. Cleaning and reconnecting it and everything powered up.

Time spent about 3 hours. Much of that was removing the compartment inserts that covered the box with the fuses. The next most time was tracing everything out. Education significant. Thanks to Jeff for his help. Also Terry at Marathon who eventually pointed me to that cheap ass light switch. Also Jon and Al who both called to offer help.

Al told me when he called 3 hours is a lot cheaper than $1,000 to have someone figure it out.
