Andy, they would need a number 7 for Jon’s vette. Since Jon will not use his cell phone while driving, they gave him an extra gear to keep that hand busy. Now that I think of it, Jon probably ordered the 7 speed manual so he would not have to count to 8 for the auto paddle shift.
Just looked at that tattoo again. Shift pattern is way out there … First to fourth, then second to fifth and speed shift to third, then sixth. Should wreck the engine, tranny AND rear end. Hope he/she did not pay a lot for that muffler, I mean tattoo.

I know the racers on this forum are likely to go crazy when I say this, but unless I am really wanting to show off or get up to speed really fast I short shift and on the highway I am in 7th almost all the time.
At 55 I am at 1100 RPM so I will be in 6th, but over 65 I am chugging along at 1300 or above. It’s kind of weird rolling at 90 MPH and only turning 1800 in 7th.
FWIW if anyone is trying to get performance out of a manual Z06 it is unlikely any gear above 4th will be used and top speed is only reached in 5th. I have no idea what gears are used in an automatic.

On cars with a relatively small atmospheric motor at the other end, top speed (189) is reached in 6th gear as not enough torque to push it through the air in7th (dual clutch automatic).
