Driver’s rear view mirror came loose
Background. We have the Ramco/Crapco mirrors on our now 17 year old Prevost chassis. The chrome on the mirrors looks in good shape. The passenger side mirror doesn’t vibrate, very solid. The driver’s side mirror doesn’t really vibrate, but has a lazy kinda slow oscillation “back and forth”. Didn’t think of it as a problem.
A couple of weeks ago we were preparing to leave for a race. I pulled the coach out of its parking place in the shadow of the race shop to a spot on the driveway where the coach was in the sun. It was in the higher 80’s.
Once the race car was loaded Cathie went to back of the trailer to confirm all the lights were working. Looking in the driver’s rear view mirror noticed that rather than looking down the side of the coach and the trailer I was looking at the driveway about halfway down the coach. I reached to the controls to adjust the mirror and nothing happened to the big mirror. I could adjust both mirrors on the passenger side and the little mirror on the driver side, but no the big mirror on the driver’s side.
I got a ladder out to check the mirror and discovered the mirror was loose, had come unfastened from whatever the “glass” is fastened to, and it was hanging from the wires for heating the mirror.
Anyone have any idea of how to get the mirror re-fastened to whatever it should be fastened to? I presume there is some kind of adhesive that should be used. Something I should DIY? Or is this something for a glass guy to do?
While I had the mirror in my hand, I noticed that the chrome finish on the inside of the mirror housing was pealing. Bummer.

If the velcro doesn’t hold the mirror, just try running a couple of screws through it until you can make a permanent fix.
I’m just kidding folks. Don’t do that.

OH SHIT! I didn’t scroll down until after I tried to screw it on. Man did that mirror ever explode.

Tom: I reviewed your video, great job but it doesn’t apply to the kinds of mirrors that are apparently on our coach. See the picture below (if I can load the picture).
There is no Velcro as in the video. The mirror (to the right) has separated from a rubberized fixture that is attached to the motor(s) for moving the mirror around. It looks like that rubberized fixture was glued/cemented to the back of the mirror and the mirror needs to be glued/cemented back on.
Any idea what glue/cement/adhesive I should use?
Or should I call a glass guy and have him come and do it?
The second picture below highlights the peeling chrome on the inside of the mirror. I suspect that over time, the peeling will come around the edge of the mirror and the outside will start peeling.

Looks the same to me. The backing plate on the new mirrors are held to the motor with what looks like silicone or ATV. Look at the second part of my video where I show the new motor, isn’t it the same?
