Door latch
Posted by Dan on November 10, 2019 at 3:12 pmAs a result of reading post about broken door latch thru the years I left the sliding window unlocked and guess what I could not open door from outside today but reached in and opened it!!! Miracles never cease!!! Does any one know if the part described by Art Wadell on this site is a direct replacement. If anyone knows him please have him call 228-216-3706. Thanks

The latch kit supplied by Prevost is designed to fit a number of years, none a perfect replacement. On my 97 XL40 I would have needed to file/cut the exterior SS skin and remake a couple of the included linkages. The kit costs over $500. I found I could repair mine with bailing wire (no gafas from the cheap seats, please!) so sent the kit back. On mine a not very good weld spot had broken loose that allowed one part of the outside door handle linkage to slide under the piece it was supposed to be connect to. The bailing wire just holds the two back together. JBWeld would likely do as well. I don’t know if that not so good weld was factory or if it was a later repair. Anyway I carry the bent end from a hack saw and can easily reach the lever arm from outside through the key hole if I need it again. Jerry

Seeing a $35 direct replacement after paying Prevost over $500 for “the kit” and then paying Liberty for their techs to modify “the kit” makes my blood boil!
I’m awfully disappointed Prevost didn’t do a better job of replacing the stock on the shelf!

Two more questions, Art. Do you or anyone else have a source for the snap in cover for the key lock hole? The ones at my local hardware store are just a bit too big or way to small. Any source for the ignition switch? Thanks.
