  • Door Between rear wheels ?

Posted by Archived on November 27, 2012 at 12:23 pm

There is a small stainless door above the drive axle and the Tag axle. In the middle of the Rubber Fender Flares on each side. The Drivers side has a screw in it to keep it closed. The passenger side is missing the Screw. Looks like a Hose of some kind behind it.

What is this ? And i guess I should replace the missing screw ?

    Thanks,

    Rocky

Rock star……..On your vintage Liberty that is where a small length of sewer hose is kept.

Your door should have a “touch latch”. Mine had one I could get at the local Home Depot. It worked by tapping on the door and the door would then spring open. Located in the area of the wheels however it is prone to getting grit in it and corroding. It was something I had to open and close regularly and keep clean and lightly lubricated otherwise it would not open properly.

I think if it was inoperable I was able to remove the half that was attached to the sewer hose tube by accessing it behind the rubber fender. It is a neat idea and works well as long as you pay some attention to it.
